Hi all,
I asked this on the email list but have gotten no responses (is it still an active list?)…
I’m using Calculate mate desktop version on a secondary system, and so far like it very much. I am not sure whether this is a rolling release, semi-rolling, or… So will my regular updates get me to current, or do i need to uninstall and install the 12/2017 release just announced at distrowatch? Thanks much for your suggestions!
Hi,
Calculate Linux is a rolling release. So just simply run cl-update (Or Linux Updater GUI) and your system is up to date and “upgraded to latest version”.
What exactly was the cl-update done (new release), nothing. Plasma is still an old version, a problem with the kernel and strange messages when the system is booting. All RR distributions have a plasma version 5.11.4.
Calculate Linux is careful with desktop environment. KDE Plasma 5.11.x comming soon.
Yes, I know for lsb it’s a standard linux command. Something happens strangely in Calculate KDE that I installed a few months ago. The first lsb command is not installed, I installed lsb and the command shows that I have ALIEN distro. I installed Calculate KDE and the command shows that I have Gentoo.
~ $ lsb_release -a
bash: lsb_release: command not found
~ $ lsb_release -a
LSB Version: n/a
Distributor ID: Gentoo
Description: #------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Release: n/a
Codename: n/a
~ $ cat /etc/issue
Welcome to \n.\O (Calculate Linux Desktop 17.12 KDE)
/etc/lsb-release file is wrong
cat /etc/gentoo-release
Calculate Linux Desktop 17.12 KDE
Thanks for the advice I am completely confused and shocked, one user uses lsb_release and this command works, does not work with me, another user using cat / etc / gentoo-release? Is there any consistency in making a Calculate version or the main rule is that there are no rules.
My English is bad, but did you understand the point and what I wrote, the man wrote that it’s a command lsb_release print Calculate Linux Desktop 17.12. Where is your code and me lsb_release Calculate Linux, it write Gentoo and nothing more.
$ lsb_release -a
LSB Version: 1.4
Distributor ID: KaOS
Description: KaOS
Release: rolling
Codename: n/a
~# lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Kali
Description: Kali GNU/Linux Rolling
Release: kali-rolling
Codename: kali-rolling
Thanks much guys!
I’ve learned from this discussion. I am very pleased Calculate is rolling release. I finally did the big update tonight with no issues (so far). Guess I don’t have lsb, but the cat command shows I’m current. Yay!
calculate /home/bill # cat /etc/issue

My primary laptop, an Inspiron i5 using Sabayon, is down for a couple weeks as i collect parts for some upgrades. Meanwhile I’m living off backed up usb drives through this core 2 duo and Calculate. This experience will allow me to become more familiar with Calculate. Seriously considering making it my main distro once the i5 is back up…
