Project: a completely custom-compiled desktop INCLUDING compiled X-org from CLS

Here’s what I’d like to do. I’d like to build the fastest Gentoo system in the world with EVERYTHING custom-compiled and then installed on my HD’s.

That’s what CLS is for, right? I don’t see any complete documentation on that. For instance, installing opera in CLS, how would that work without xorg or a window manager? Is that right? I can’t understand that.

So here’s my dilemma, I haven’t been able to find step by step instructions on how to do something like that! Can some please point me in the direction of step by step instructions? Thanks.

In CLS is already precompiled xorg, openbox, etc… If you want to build EVERYTHING on your pc - you need to change make.conf
Add to /etc/portage/make.conf/custom

FEATURES="${FEATURES} -getbinpkg"

and something optimization flags you want.

And then rebuild the system.

Fantastic! Thank you! would I have to do that with CLS, thereby creating an excellent ISO custom-compiled for my i7 microprocessor, or, can I accomplish the same thing with emerge -e system and
emerge -e world, in an already installed Calculate Linux?

You might want to check the Gentoo Forums also, since Calculate is Gentoo + it’s own prebuilt very capable versions and since there are more Gentoo users, Gentoo’s Forums are more active.
