I burned the iso on to a DVD and booted from it. The booting appeared to finish normally. When I looked in the Settings menu, the “Preferred Applications” icon was MIA. By the time I got to “Pre” in the search field, I was at a dead end with the menu. I have tried re-emerge-ing the XFCE packages in installed systems in various ways but nothing has helped. Weird huh?
