Released on March 14, 2012
We are pleased to announce the release of Calculate Linux 11.15, a Gentoo-based distribution fully compatible with the original Gentoo, but using its own installer, configuring your system with Calculate Utilities and providing an all-ready heterogeneous client-server solution for rapid deployment in corporate environment.
The major change in CL 11.15 is the migration to GNOME 3 and to GNOME-Shell, while the desktop interface of Calculate Linux remains visually the same (see Fig. 1); you will still be able to manage domain hosts under Calculate Directory Server. For a more optimized user environment, out team have developed a set of new extensions. To switch between windows, hit Alt+Tab (nothing new here). The launch panel is at the bottom of the screen, as is the tradition with CL.
In the default configuration, the top panel features the Applications menu, the desktop switcher, the taskbar, the trash bin, the system tray, the Lock button and the Exit button (see Fig. 2). System notifications were moved to the top right of the screen, below the system tray (see Fig. 3). Activities are disabled by default.
For users who appreciate GNOME 3, we provide the possibility to disable extensions, so that GNOME 3 reverts back to its classic behaviour.
Calculate Linux 11.15 includes: Linux kernel 3.2.8, Gnome 3.2, KDE 4.8.1, XFCE 4.8, Chromium 17, LibreOffice 3.5, XBMC 11.0, Gimp 2.6.11, OpenLDAP 2.4.24, Samba 3.5.11.
Since 11.15, you can update all seven versions of Calculate from binary repositories. The templates we use to configure the system were moved to the overlay, thus allowing to quickly add support for new packages.
As usual, you can choose between several flavors of CL: Calculate Directory Server (CDS), Calculate Linux Desktop with a desktop environment fit to your liking: KDE (CLD), GNOME (CLDG) or XFCE (CLDX), Calculate Media Center (CMC), Calculate Linux Scratch (CLS), Calculate Scratch Server (CSS).
